Rules of thumb determining the modulation appearance in EXAFS spectra

This cartoon shows how EXAFS spectra vary as (a) the number of scattering atoms in a given shell; (b) the radius of the shell; and (c) the scattering strength of the atoms in a shell. The responses shown here are described by Equation 7.19 in my textbook “Introduction to Synchrotron Radiation - Techniques and Applications”.
