These animations show the necessary concerted movements of a spherical grating around the Rowland circle in order to scan the photon energy of radiation emitted from a point source on that Rowland circle. The second one (in 3D) shows a setup in which multiple spherical analyser crystals are used in parallel in order to increase capture area and thus the signal-to-noise ratio.
